Terms & Conditions
Last updated: 1 June 2026
These terms govern your use of Selene StudyOS at selenos.world (the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Who is Selene
Selene is operated by Sean Kwendo, an individual based in Kenya, reachable at seankwendo23@gmail.com. The Service is a study productivity platform aimed at university students.
2. Eligibility
- You must be at least 13 years old.
- If you are under 18 you confirm a parent or guardian has consented.
- You must give true information when signing up (real name, real email).
- One account per person. Don't share your login.
3. Your account
- You are responsible for keeping your password secure.
- You must tell us if your account is compromised — email
seankwendo23@gmail.com.
- We may suspend or delete accounts that violate these terms or that are used to abuse other users or the Service.
4. Plans, prices, and billing
- Selene offers Free, Standard, Premium, and Group plans. The current price of each is shown in the app and on the billing page.
- Paid plans are billed in Kenyan Shillings (KES) by Paystack on the date you upgrade, then on the same date each cycle (monthly or yearly).
- Yearly plans are charged once for the full year up-front.
- Prices may change. If we change a price we will email you at least 14 days before your next renewal. You can cancel before then.
- You can cancel any time from Settings → Billing. Your plan stays active until the end of the period you have already paid for. We do not pro-rate refunds for the unused portion.
- Refund requests for genuine billing errors (double charge, charged after cancellation) will be honoured within 14 days. Email
seankwendo23@gmail.com.
- If a payment fails and is not retried successfully within 7 days, your account is downgraded to Free.
5. What's in each plan
The features and limits for each plan (AI message caps, course limits, etc.) are listed on the billing page in the app. Limits are enforced in the application — if you exceed a limit on Free you'll be told to upgrade. We may adjust limits as the underlying AI provider costs change, with at least 14 days' notice for any reduction.
6. Your content
- You own everything you upload to Selene: notes, files, flashcards, chats. We do not claim any ownership.
- You grant Selene a limited licence to store your content, display it back to you, and process it to deliver the Service (e.g. running it through an AI model to give you a reply, indexing it so search works).
- You confirm you have the right to upload the content (you wrote it, or you have permission). Do not upload copyrighted material you do not own without permission.
- You may export your data any time from Settings.
7. AI features — what to expect
- The Selene AI assistant is powered by large language models from third-party providers (Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini) and our own self-hosted model. We choose which model handles each request.
- The AI can be wrong. It can hallucinate facts, miscalculate, or misunderstand. Do not rely on it for high-stakes academic decisions without verifying. It is a study aid, not an oracle.
- Do not use Selene's AI to do work you are required to do yourself under your university's academic-integrity policy. You are responsible for following your university's rules on AI use in coursework and exams.
- Your prompts and content are sent to the AI provider servicing your request. Their use is governed by their privacy policy and ours. None of the providers we use are allowed to train models on your data.
8. What you must not do
- Do not use Selene to harm, harass, defame, or impersonate other people.
- Do not try to bypass plan limits, the rate limiter, or the security mechanisms.
- Do not scrape, automate, or load-test the Service without our written permission.
- Do not upload malware, illegal content, or anything that violates Kenyan law.
- Do not use Selene to generate content that violates the AI provider's policies (CSAM, instructions for violence, etc.). We comply with their abuse-reporting requirements.
- Do not reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to access the Service in ways other than the documented interfaces.
9. Group plans
- The Group plan supports up to 6 members. The person who pays is the group owner.
- The owner is responsible for adding and removing members and for the group's billing.
- Content shared into a group becomes visible to all current group members. Be deliberate about what you share.
10. Service availability
We aim to keep Selene running and to deploy fixes quickly when something breaks. We do not promise any specific uptime. The Service is provided "as is" without warranty.
11. Termination
- You can delete your account any time from Settings. Your data is removed within 30 days.
- We can suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, on notice unless there is an urgent legal or security reason not to.
- On termination, sections 6 (your content), 12 (liability), and 13 (governing law) survive.
12. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent allowed by law, Selene is not liable for indirect or consequential damages (lost grades, missed deadlines, exam stress, anything similar) arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any direct loss is capped at the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or KES 5,000, whichever is higher. This does not limit liability for fraud, gross negligence, or anything that cannot lawfully be excluded under Kenyan law.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Kenya. Disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Kenyan courts.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If we make a material change we will email you and update the date at the top. Continued use after the change means you accept it. If you do not accept, stop using the Service and delete your account.
